Paardekraal vertical shaft rehabilitation
Corroded internal shaft steel replaced with new steelwork made in our own workshop — at Anglo American Platinum’s Paardekraal shaft. Completed LTI free.
The project
New steel in an operating shaft
Internal shaft steel works hard and corrodes. At the Paardekraal shaft, ShaftCon was appointed by Anglo American Platinum to rehabilitate the vertical shaft by manufacturing and installing new internal steel.
The before photographs in the company profile show what the shaft faced: steel members eaten away by corrosion. The after photographs show the same shaft compartments with the new steelwork installed. Because the steel was manufactured by ShaftCon as well as installed by ShaftCon, fabrication and fitting stayed with one team — the single point of responsibility that runs through all our shaft work.
Our project list also records camelback installations at Paardekraal Mine.
The Paardekraal shaft rehabilitation was completed LTI free.
