North Mara underground support, Tanzania

Vertical dam support and wet-crete on the 950 and 980 levels of Barrick’s North Mara underground mine — delivered by ShaftCon Engineering Limited.

The project

Securing the ground around vertical dams underground

At Barrick’s North Mara mine in northern Tanzania, ShaftCon works underground on the support of vertical dams, with wet-crete applied over the new support. The company profile records the work on two levels of the underground mine: the 980 level and the 950 level.

The profile’s photographs from both levels show the ground before support: broken sidewalls and hanging wall under the cap lamp. On surface, our team prepared the handrails for the 980 level in the workshop.

The work is carried out by ShaftCon Engineering Limited, our Tanzanian company in Dar es Salaam, led by technical director Gift Mollel. The company holds a BRELA certificate of incorporation, a TIN certificate, an OSHA compliance certificate, a business licence, a tax clearance certificate and a local content plan, all published on our safety and compliance page.
